Bethany, a place of hope and transformation.
With the incredible sacrifice and generosity of many people in UK and Kenya we were able to purchase this great property in 2008. We are especially grateful to Parklands Church in Sketty, Swansea and especially Brian Farr and his team who undertook the incredible challenge to walk all the way form North Wales to South Wales in 9 days and raised £23000, which is a great help towards the purchase of this property.
At Bethany, a child is prepared for re-integration back to his own family or into a foster family as we seek to establish better structures in their own family. We also carry out Equipping parents seminars and some income generating activities in farming.
In July 2014, Truro Baptist Church in Cornwall, UK sent a Team to do a marvellous job in renovating the building which is a 4 bedroom house standing on a 2.75 acre plot close to the beautiful Ngong Hills near Ngong town, 25 kilometres from Nairobi City Centre.
Our dream is to exploit the resources at Bethany and generate money to fund the operations of Tumaini Kwa Watoto. We are working with an expert in agriculture to lay the foundation for our farming activities.
For the next six months we are concentrating on agriculture which involves
- rehabilitating the greenhouse
- laying drip irrigation for the open field
- planting short term crops and rotating throughout the year
- our farming will be market focused i.e planting what we know will sell
When the farming activities take shape we will partner with the Ministry of Agriculture to make Bethany a demonstration farm. Poultry – we intend to have 100 layers to begin with. We are shopping for the traditional breed which is now popular with the very health conscious Nairobians.
- All our quarterly training programs will be held at Bethany
- Equipping Parents Seminars
Long term plan
My dream is to have an all inclusive resource centre, a getaway that will have guesthouses, conference rooms, office block, recreation centre (with swimming pool, mini golf course etc), we will arrange group tours of the Rift Valley, the Ngong hills for visitors.
