Vision and Mission
We are living in times of unprecedented family breakdowns, whether in the West, East or in developing countries, poor or rich. This attack on the family fabric means that many children are growing up in an unsafe environment. Many have become homeless children living on the streets.
We seek to:
◆ Relate to children on the street.
◆ Rescue them form life on the streets.
◆ Reunite them with his\her family or placing in a foster family which is suitable and ready to accept them.
◆ Reintegration by a process of Reconciliation and Restoration with their families and/or place them in a foster family and be involved in the process of restoring them and their families to reach their full potential.
A survey of children in Kenya done by UNICEF in 2009 indicates that six million Children require special care and protection, 2.4 million of whom are orphans. Most of these children are cared for by family members but many are in charitable children institutes (CCIS) on the streets, or in child headed households. Issues leading children to the streets include but are not limited to abandonment by parent; neglect; molestation; family disintegration, parents unable or unwilling to provide, parents unable or unwilling to provide; poverty, remarriage of one or both parents, lack of parental guidance, rebellion, truancy, slow learners and poor performers in school, addiction (in the home and by the children), bereavement, and many others.
In Tumaini Kwa Watoto, we believe there is a feasible solution for children on the streets.
It is said that ‘the journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step’. That step then should be in the right direction. In 1998 our founders took such a step into the streets of Nairobi, Kenya by leaving their comfortable home in Swansea, Wales with 2 of their children (aged 10 and 8). They had a burden for children on the streets. God gave them a bold vision and mission to rescue children off the streets and reunite them back with their families.
OUR VISION
OUR MISSION
To see every child in Kenya and throughout Africa rescued from life on the street and restored into a transformed family, who impact their community, generation and beyond.
To set homeless children into families through building relationships, prayer, counselling empowerment, training and transformation through the Word of God.
The 4Rs Model
Every good cause is defined by its vision and mission but it is equally important to have a highly efficient and well tested working strategy that will ensure the success of the operations and programs designed to help achieve the vision and mission of any charity. Over the years we have developed a very successful strategy that allows us to be more effective and successful in our operations. TKW has developed a family based outreach and empowerment program that we call 4Rs, which has proven to be very effective.
