Every child needs a family’, I woke up one night in 2006 and those words were ringing in my mind. We had placed an order for t-shirts to be printed for an upcoming event so I rang the printer in the morning…

    Every child needs a family

A family gives us identity and a sense of belonging. I am a woman who got a new identity because of God’s goodness as I let Jesus Christ into my life.  ‘Life was shattered, and hope was gone crushing was the load that I bore.  Then out of the depth I cried, ‘Oh God,’ giving me something worth living for.  Something more than my yesterday, more than I had before.  Something more than wealth or fame.  He gave me something worth living for…. There is hope that the children of Kenya will be saved. Hope was a word that kept coming into our conversations when talking about children who lived a life without hope on the streets of Nairobi.  I have seen the lives of children who are homeless shattered many times, from their homes, communities, and on the streets where they hoped to find a new life, yet their hope was dashed. Whatever dark moments they have lived, I knew that the Lord had put deep and rich deposits of potential in each of them.

To effectively reach out to these children, the Lord placed a burden in our hearts, and this led to the birth of Tumaini Kwa Watoto. Tumaini Kwa Watoto translates as ‘Children of Hope’ on a mission to ‘set lonely children into families and to restore families to God’s order.  My focus for this season of my life is ‘Transforming Children, Families and Communities by Passing the baton to the next generation and faithfully stewarding resources.

Our desire from the beginning was to give these children hope.  Hope to start living and dreaming again.  Hope to give their dreams a new lease of life.

Giving hope has been our vision and mission.  Jesus Christ is our living hope who has given us hope to pass on. With a team of passionate and committed people, over 4,000 children have found hope since the work began. We are celebrating God’s goodness.  Prayer and God’s word have been our unshakable foundation. Recently I was talking to Ben who Tumaini Kwa Watoto rescued from the streets and reunited with his dad in 2006.  He is now a secondary school teacher and also pursuing another degree in education.  He is passionate about mentoring young people. He says, ‘I can attest that God uses people to bless other people and, in my case, He used Tumaini Kwa Watoto to transform my life.’

I’m a founder of Tumaini Kwa Watoto and I have walked miles to reunite or follow child with a family. I have been a voice for the voiceless as I raise awareness and resources for this work. Your gift and my gift can make a difference for one child. We all have something to make a difference. Let’s bring what we have to Jesus and trust him to multiply it for his purposes. Let’s not wait until we have enough. Together everyone achieves. I am passing the baton to the next generation and stewarding resources.Until there is great company of people proclaiming that ‘Every child needs a family’ and that God sets the lonely into families. Until every child in Africa lives in a peaceful habitation, a secure family and at rest. (Isaiah 32:18)
