    HOPE: Empowering girls through education

    Melissa's Heartfelt, Thank you!

    THANK YOU!

    Her Story, Our Mission

Melisa’s story is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. Once denied an education and trapped in domestic work, her future was uncertain…Tumaini Kwa Watoto reached out offering hope,  rescued her, provided access to schooling and now, she radiates without fear of the future. This video is her personal “thank you” for the gift of education, and this is our shared story together.

At Tumaini Kwa Watoto, we are committed to creating equal opportunities for all children, particularly those vulnerable due to street life or difficult family circumstances. We support both boys and girls equally.

This year until May, we have 181 girls rescued from different vulnerable situations and are safely in their families. Currently, 26 girls are pursuing secondary education with our sponsorship support. But the need persists. 29 determined girls are awaiting support to sustain their academic journeys- A call for our Education Empowerment

Together, we can ensure 29 girls, and many more we continue to rescue; returns to school, are protected from these exploitation and are discovering their limitless potential.

Journey of Hope: Mwendo Is Home!

    The Journey Home

Mwendo did not end up on the streets overnight. It started with the desire to fit in, to feel strong, to belong. Led astray by the false promises of older boys and the relentless force of peer pressure, he made one bad choice. Then another.

Soon, the warmth of family was replaced by the cold, unforgiving street life. For some time, he was just another face lost in the crowd, surviving day by day.

But his story was not meant to end there…

    THE RESCUE

In a moment of vulnerability, Mwendo was finally seen, It took open eyes to spot him and open arms to pull him back

    THE WAY HOME

Rescuing him meant more than getting him off the streets; it meant reminding him who he truly was. He was not just going home. He was reclaiming his family, his purpose, and his future…

    RE-UNITY

…For Mwendo, Love has bridged the gap. A family is whole again. He is where he belongs…!

A New Chapter of Hope: Our 2025 Journey

A New Chapter of Hope: Our 2025 Journey

The year began with a single mission: to turn the tide for children living on the streets. Because of your unwavering support, the Street to Safety Program achieved a monumental milestone. This past year alone, we successfully rescued and reunited 1,202 children (433 girls and 769 boys) with their families.

Each reunion is more than just a statistic; it represents a child sleeping in a safe bed and a family made whole again. Since we began in 1999, you have helped us bring a total of 8,143 children home. Our commitment didn’t end at the front door—our teams conducted nearly 1,500 ground visits and 1,200 follow-up calls to ensure these transitions were permanent and healthy.

    Empowering the Future through Education

Beyond safety, we focused on opportunity. Through our Education Empowerment Program:

    • 40+ students received full sponsorships.
    • 416 children were equipped with uniforms, stationery, and tuition support, removing the barriers to their dreams.
    • We reached thousands more through 10 school outreaches and 13 mentorship sessions, sparking hope in young minds across the region.
    Strengthening the Foundation: Families

We believe that a stable home is the best defense against the streets. This year, we supported 498 families, economically empowered 69 households to become self-sufficient, and even completed 3 critical house repairs to provide safe shelter. Through 24 community training sessions, we’ve strengthened the social fabric in counties across the country.

    Happy New Year, 2026!

None of these stories would be possible without youour partners. You are the backbone of every rescue and the fuel behind every student’s success.

As we look forward to 2026, we invite you to continue walking this path with us. There are still children to reach, families to empower, and futures to secure. Let’s make this year our most impactful one yet.

Thank you for being part of the Street to Safety family.

The Measurable Impact of your Partnership

Pure Resilience: A Degree and a Career for Roba and Dave

At ages 14 and 15, Dave and Roba faced the heartbreaking reality of family financial insufficiency that was about to cut short their education journey. Yet, their deep determination remained unbroken. Supported by Tumaini Kwa Watoto and the steadfast commitment of our partners, their journey is now a powerful, living story that demonstrates how resilience transforms impossible odds into inspiring life stories!

Below- Roba (in a vest) and Dave (in orange shorts) during a session at our high school mentorship camp…

Dave's Journey: From Financial Hurdle to Graduation

For Dave, 24 years old, future seemed impossible. Growing up in Kenya’s eastern region, his mother was unemployed, and the family struggled to meet basic needs. After completing primary school, his dream of joining secondary school felt unattainable. However, upon meeting his mother in Nairobi and assessing their critical situation, we stepped in to sponsor his secondary education.

Dave excelled in high school, scoring a high B+ on his final exams. Though our initial sponsorship concluded after secondary school, Dave’s ambition did not fade. Driven by his success, he secured admission to the Co-operative University of Kenya in September 2021 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

Huge congratulations to Dave on his academic success!

We are proud to celebrate Dave’s academic success! The financial hurdles of university fees and accommodation were daunting, but thanks to perseverance and the ongoing support, he overcame them. Dave is now set to graduate this December,  embracing his potential, he looks forward to a future filled with hope!

Roba's Path: From Bus Stop Rescue to Four-Star Hotel

At 23 years, Roba’s journey highlights the direct impact of our work. Unable to afford high school despite his mother’s hard work, his life changed at 14 years when Tumaini Kwa Watoto team found him at a Nairobi bus stop. Following his rescue and family situation assessment, we sponsored his full high school education. After his 2022 final secondary exams, Roba joined college where acquired practical skills at a Technical Institute. His commitment was evident: he secured a job during his hotel internship and Roba’s perseverance continues to drive his success!

    A MESSAGE TO OUR PARTNERS

We celebrate the significant strides these two young men have made. Their academic achievements and career progress are not coincidences; they are the direct result of your belief and investment in our mission to children and families.

We thank God for the opportunity to walk alongside them, and we sincerely Thank You- our Partners, for making this life-changing impact a reality!

Beyond the Reunion: Sustaining Reunited Families

     Dear Friends

Thank you! Because of your generosity last month, 51 children are back in school- fully equipped and ready to learn. You helped ensure they are not just off the streets and risk, but safe, thriving and getting the family life they deserve.

25 years of unwavering hope and action. Through all the challenges, our focus has been constant: rescuing the most vulnerable children and successfully reuniting them with family. We recently celebrated over 300 life-changing reunions across 11 Kenyan Counties.

The journey with the child goes beyond the door…

The Fragile Bridge- Why Reunion Is not Enough...

A successful reunion is fragile. Many families remain trapped in the same cycles of poverty, joblessness, and severe food insecurity that initially drove the child away. When a child returns to a home that cannot feed or educate them, joy quickly turns to desperation. Without sustained support, the streets become a real option once more.

And that is why we go beyond reunion…

    The lifeline- Keeping Families Whole

We have a continuous campaign to build a permanent, stable foundation for these vulnerable families. Your contribution acts as a lifeline -a security fence- ensuring that the progress we have made is never lost. Your gift provides essential and direct support to stabilize these homes through: Food Security, Education Sponsorship, Economic Empowerment and Safe Housing

     Please consider partnering with us

Every gift is a commitment to the long-term well-being of a child whose life we have only just begun to save. Help us keep these families whole.

A Quiet Revolution: Empowering Students in Kenya

In our recent student mentorship sessions across the Counties, we did not arrive with grand plans, speeches or textbooks. Instead, we came with a simple mission: to listen and empower young people. We walked through the school gates with open hearts, ready to connect.

The Silent Struggles of Girls and Boys

In quiet corners, the students gathered. The girls, their faces a mix of curiosity and hesitation, sat with the women on our team. Soon, their stories began to flow, revealing the profound challenges they faced. Many spoke of the constant fear of sexual exploitation in their communities. Others shared the struggle of managing their periods without sanitary pads, a reality that often forced them to miss school, falling behind in their studies.

In another class, the boys met with the men from our team. They spoke of a different weight they carried: the heavy burden of child labor. Pulled from their classrooms and into the fields to help their families survive, they felt the immense pressure of being the “men of the house,” shouldering responsibilities far too great for their young shoulders.

    The Power of Resilience

As we listened to their candid stories, a common thread emerged. These children, despite their different homes, were united by their struggles. They were the silent carriers of their families’ burdens; the lack of food, broken homes, or the absence of a parent. Yet, through it all, their desire for an education shone brightly.

We saw this hope in the boy who came to school hungry, clinging to the hope of a single meal. We saw it in the girl who wore the same dirty uniform every day because it was all she had. These families, though living on the edge, believed fiercely in the promise of a better future through education.

A Clear Call to Action and Partnership

Our visit to the community was a powerful reminder that true empowerment begins with listening and seeing the incredible resilience that exists within these communities. These needs are simple yet profound and a clear call for action:

*Sanitary towels to help girls stay in school

*Protection from the risk of exploitation

*Support for families struggling to make ends meet, so children can focus on their studies instead of burdens at home and labor

This is a journey we can take together. By offering not just prayers, but practical support, we can help these children realize their dreams.
