What God has Accomplished Together with us in 2023
We are looking back as we celebrate 25 years of God’s goodness in TKW (Tumaini Kwa Watoto- hope in Swahili /Children of Hope) work this year. 2023 came to an end as we provided sustainable hope to 941 vulnerable children and their families. Thanks to your generosity, many families across our nation now have a sustainable way of putting food on the table, pay for their children’s basic needs and education on their way out of poverty.
Highlights from 2023 Accomplishments
We accomplished a lot together despite many challenges due to rising cost of living in our nation.
- We reintegrated 941 children.
- Together with our community volunteers, we did 1299 home visits.
- We built a house for a grandmother caring for 4 orphans.
- Supported 52 families with Income Generating Activities/small businesses.
- One family received several goats for empowerment.
- 10 schools outreaches, impacting 770 pupils through counselling, group activities, and provisions of basic needs.
- Supported 330 families with food and other basic needs.
- Provided school uniforms to 224 children.
- Sponsored 40 children in high school with School fees.
- Provided 127 children in primary school with school fees and basic school needs.
- Shared Christmas gifts/shopping with 15 families.
Journey with us in 2024
The need is great, and we have set our goals for 2024. We are inviting you to journey with us in 2024 by investing in:
- Reintegrating 1000 children with families from the streets of 5 Counties in Kenya. Working together with Community Volunteers.
- Make 2300 home visits.
- Support 60 needy families with family economic empowerment/businesses.
- Support 10 Projects (building shelters, repairing, renovating)
- Conduct 16 School empowerment in Primary and secondary schools.
- Organise 15 youth Mentorship camps and life skills activities.
- Support 389 children with education sponsorship.
- Hold 25 community-based training.

How we begun…
Kenya Children of Hope (Tumaini Kwa Watoto) was founded in UK in 1996 as a registered Charity (No.1055715) by Heddwyn & Lydiah Williams when lived in Swansea. They moved to
Kenya in 1998 with two of their children aged 10 and 8. They started operations in 1999 to address the plight of orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya. Heddwyn is Welsh having grown up in a village just outside Swansea. He qualified as a teacher in a college in Liverpool in 1973 but retired from teaching after only 8 days due to having arthritis in his knees & ankles. Thereafter he trained as a Chartered Accountant in Manchester. Before and after qualifying he work for a Christian relief and development organization in Sudan for 8 years. There, he saw for himself the tremendous burden of the poor and of children. One day, whilst visiting Nairobi, Kenya from Sudan, he was in the city centre when he saw what seemed like a bundle of rags on the pavement. As he got closer, he realized that this was a small child. Yet everyone was passing by. At the time he did not know what to do. But he vowed that he would be back and would devote his life to rescue such children from this terrible state and see them grow in a secure place in a stable family environment. (Isaiah 32:18).
Lydiah was born and raised in Kenya. She worked in the city of Nairobi and everyday saw children on the streets begging. But what could she do on her small salary? She often prayed that the government would address the plight of these children. Then God started challenging her about doing something about it. At that time Heddwyn & Lydiah were living in Wales and enjoyed a quiet life like everyone else. How was it possible to help these vulnerable children without any money? But God… God gave them Psalm 68:6 as his plan for them. (‘God sets the lonely in families’) A transformed family is the key (Isaiah 32:18). They had a conviction that even if they impacted the life one child, the sacrifice would have been worth it. They left Wales by faith in God who says all things are possible and were based in Kenya from 1998 to 2011. They built the TKW team (Children of Hope) before returning to Swansea to look after their family. Their current role is raising awareness and resources for the work in Kenya. Together celebrating 25 years of reintegrating over 6,000 lonely children with families. Restoring Hope. God has done it through us. Let the next 25 years commence!
